Lesson 1.5.6

BHO Textures: Shatter, Budder, Crumble, Sugar, and Sauce

Estimated time: 75 minutes

Learning Objectives

  • Understand that BHO texture is a purge and post-processing outcome, not an extraction variable
  • Know the vacuum oven parameters that produce each texture: shatter (low temp, no agitation, slow purge), budder (whip nucleation at 100-110F), crumble (higher temp, extended purge, agitation), sugar/sauce (partial purge, sealed jar, THCA nucleation)
  • Identify when texture is going wrong during purge and how to correct course
  • Know residual solvent testing requirements and targets for each texture
  • Understand the relationship between terpene content and texture stability (why high-terp shatter sugars)
