Fire Safety and Emergency Response

Learning Objectives
- ✓Classify fires by type (A, B, C, D, K) and know that solvent fires are Class B
- ✓Select the correct extinguisher (CO2 for electrical/solvent, dry chemical as backup, NEVER water on a solvent fire)
- ✓Understand fire triangle and how extraction labs manage each leg (fuel: solvent containment; oxygen: ventilation control; ignition: bonding, grounding, spark elimination)
- ✓Execute emergency response: chemical spill, skin exposure, eye exposure, inhalation, fire, evacuation
- ✓Know your facility's emergency action plan and why winging it during an emergency gets people hurt
